    Introduction

Hey everyone. This is Darin Kidd. I hope you’re having an amazing day. Today I’m going to talk to you about some things that I believe will make a major impact in your life. Do me a favor and let me know, as you’re watching this, let me know where you’re watching from, what city, what State, what province in Canada, what country. It’s always exciting to come to you and be able to come back and engage with you in the comment section. Also too, I’m broadcasting on multiple platforms. So if you’re on Facebook, make sure you like the page and you can set up to get notifications. If you’re on YouTube, make sure you subscribe to the channel because we’re getting ready to put a lot of emphasis on bringing you new weekly content that can help you get to where you want to be sooner than later. Real quick, my story for all of the brand new people … Hey Mindy, thanks for joining. My story, it was just 22 years ago, because my wife and I have five kids. And when the 22 year old was born, we were on government assistance.

We were applying for food stamps, we had a car repossessed. I’m a college dropout, my wife’s a college dropout, we still live in a really small town that we were born and raised in. Things weren’t looking good. I actually went to the doctor for depression because I felt like I had no hope. When you can’t feed your kids, you can’t support your spouse, couldn’t make it through college, couldn’t keep a job. And then when you live in a small town … I don’t know if any of you can relate to this, everybody knows your business more than you do. So then everybody was talking about how my house looked abandoned because we had no grass. And, “Man, did you hear about Darin? He failed again.” I don’t know how many of you have ever felt stuck. You just felt like no matter what happened in life, you could never get ahead. How many times have we said this, or we heard people say this, “Hey look, I take two steps forward and three steps back. Man, I always seem to just get by.”

Don’t Look Back: 7 Keys to a Breakthrough

What I want to do, how did I go from there to go on out in making a lot of money, multiple seven figures over the next so many years, being able to be a stay-at-home parent, being able to be my own boss, and being able to speak on stages all over the world in multiple countries in front of tens of thousands of people? I wish I could say it was because Darin Kidd is so good, but I learned some key principles, some things because I had some mentors come into my life that completely changed everything. I know how it feels when you have no hope, but then I also know how it feels when you finally have those people that come into your life, that look at you with your potential, how you could be with your God-given potential not how you are. No matter what has happened in the past, that does not equal your future. Don’t look back. Don’t keep looking back unless that’s the way that you want to go. I would love to know as I go through these seven tips with you, which one resonates with you?

    Pay Attention

Like did you have an aha moment? Can I get an “amen” on one of these that you agree with? Let’s go ahead and let’s get started. Number one, okay, one of the ways that you can have a true breakthrough … And by the way, some of these things, you may hear them and you may say exactly what I said many years ago. Like, “It can’t be that simple.” And, “I don’t need any hype.” Like, “Give me some strategies and some how-to’s.” Well, I want to mix in a little bit of both in the next seven tips. Number one is paying attention to what you’re thinking about. Think about what you’re thinking about and your speech patterns, what you actually say. We have 70-90,000 thoughts a day. By the time we’re 35 years old, over 75% of … Well actually, it’s over 90% of what you do today is the exact same thing that you did yesterday. So if we have 70-90,000 thoughts a day, the majority of those thoughts are subconscious. Our subconscious mind actually makes more decisions on a daily basis than our conscious mind.

You can’t live a positive life with a negative attitude. When you’re thinking negative thoughts, it affects the way that you feel. When it affects the way that you feel, then what happens? It affects your behaviors. There’s another point, I’m making sure I don’t get too far ahead of myself. You have to think about what you’re thinking about. And then I recently heard one of the top strategists in the world, that he goes in and he works with all these professional athletes and these teams, football teams in the NFL. And one of the first things that he does when he goes in and he starts working with them, he goes, “Listen, there’s no negativity. I do not want to hear you speaking anything negative.” Because a negative thought is four to seven times more powerful than a positive. A negative thought is four to seven times more powerful than a positive. But when you speak it, what happens is it multiplies it by 10.

I wish I had the time to go through the science, how we have what we call the reticular activating system. And what we see, what we look for, we find. What we seek is seeking us. When you verbalize things, it just multiplies it. And in Proverbs, it talks about the power of life and death is in the tongue. Number one, make sure that you pay attention to what you think, the thoughts that you have. Garbage in, garbage out. And what you speak, because your thoughts create your feelings and you can’t live a positive life with a negative attitude. And another thing too, with the way that I started looking at this that changed everything is when I think thoughts and when I speak words, I’m sowing seeds. You don’t just reap what you sow, you reap much more. If you plant one kernel of corn, you don’t get a kernel of corn back, you get a whole stalk with many kernels. So we reap a lot more than we sow.

    Investing in You

I’m speaking negative, and I’m criticizing, and I’m always angry and engaging in bad conversations, then what I’m going to do is I’m going to read more of what I’m sewing. That’s number one. Number two, not investing in ourselves. The best investment … I’m seeing all kinds of “invest in crypto, invest in this, invest in that”. And you know what? That’s smart, to have good investments. I’m not a stock broker, I’m not going to give you stock investment advice. But here’s what I will do. I will tell you the absolute number one investment you can ever make is investing in you. Because why do most people that win the lottery go broke? Have you ever thought about that? The recent numbers that I just heard, in 30 some months, the majority of people that win the mega million dollar lottery, they just don’t go broke and lose everything that they just won. But what they do is they go back to a place worse than where they were ever before they won the lottery. And we go, “Why is that?” Does anybody know why that is?

It’s because they didn’t become a multimillionaire, and our income always comes back to where we are. So if you take someone that didn’t become a multimillionaire, you give them millions of dollars, they lose it and they go back to a place worse than where they were before they ever won the lottery. But if you take a multimillionaire and you strip them of everything that they have, they will go back and they will make it again, and they will do it again because they know the formula. They became a multimillionaire. And how do you become a multimillionaire? It’s determined by the value that you bring into the marketplace. When I would bag groceries in high school, that was minimum wage because it was simple problems. You put the heavy stuff at the bottom, and the eggs on the bread and the bread up top. I messed that up sometimes. But you know what? That’s what I was getting paid minimum wage. When I became a multiple seven figure earner, then what happened was I had bigger challenges but it made me become more. Every day I invest in myself.

The beauty of the internet and social media, like right now, you’re working on yourself. You’re growing yourself right now and it’s not even costing you anything. So when you’re investing in yourself, here’s what I would say. What are you reading on a daily basis? What are you listening to? What podcasts? What YouTube videos? I’ve listened to multiple trainings this morning along with my meditation, along with my devotion, along with a message from Rick Warren for about 30, 45 minutes when I was getting ready, because I know that every day I need to invest in me because I don’t make what I want, I make what I am. And if I want to make more, I need to become more. Why is it making more important to me? Because the dollar amount that I make and probably you make is the amount of people that we impact, it’s the service that we offer. So what are you reading? What are you listening to? People go, “Darin, why did you spend so much money and continue to spend so much money hiring coaches and mentors and having VIP days?”

I have spent tens of thousands with just one person to coach me in one category. And what did I do? I had negative friends and family just say, “Hey, that’s the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard. Why would you pay anyone that type of money?” And I’m like, “Well, it’s crazy not to.” Why would I spend like some of these people, a decade or more trying to figure out what they learned when I can hire them and learn decades in days? I can shave years off my learning curve. I can read a book where someone took many years of their life to figure out what to do right, and they put it into the book and I read that book and I shaved all that time off my learning curve. The best investment you can ever make is investing in you. No one can ever take that away, and that’s that’s number two. Let me just see, I’m just making sure that I don’t … And another thing too, that I had my notes, working on you and investing in you has now benefits that can make a positive impact on your life today.

It’s not like you have to wait the next 5, 10, 20, 30 years until you retire. When you’re investing in you, there’s now benefits that impact the quality of your life in every single area. All right. And for those of you that are in business, because we have a lot of entrepreneurs that are following this page and learning for me. You’re entrepreneurs, you are the CEO of You Inc. Y-O-U. In your company, whether it’s real estate, whether it’s network marketing, direct sales, whatever it may be, do you have the same products? Do you have the same compensation plan? Do you have the same videos and website that you direct people to, to look at it? Yes, you do. So you’re the messenger, you’re not really the message. The only difference in the company is you. If you’re the messenger and not the message, then what you want to do is you want to make sure you’re working on becoming the best messenger that you possibly can.

    Associations

That’s why you watch people in a company, you go, “Man, how do they have the same products, the same compensation plan, the same videos, the same app, but yet one person has success and one doesn’t?” I will guarantee you it’s because that one person is working on them on a daily basis. And then when you work on you, you’re going to find that you attract a different caliber and quality of people because like attracts like. Number three, associations. Associations. This is something that’s taken my entire life to really understand the importance of associations. If you show me your closest circle of friends, I will show you your future. Because your association is like an elevator, they lift you up or they bring you down, and they work harder on you than you work on them. Here’s a question to ask yourself, when you jump off of this training today, I would ask myself … write now, “The quality of your life is determined by the quality of questions that we ask ourselves.” So what are my associations doing to me? Or what are they doing for me?

I think it was John Maxwell that said, “If you can’t change the people around you, you change the people around you.” I am very intentional about my associations. I don’t want to be at the top of my circle. If I’m at the top, the only thing that can do is bring me down. I want to be in circles of people that they intimidate me, they make me uncomfortable. They’re smarter, they’re making more money, they’re more motivated. Because all that’s going to do is that’s going to bring me up and it’s going to change the way that I think. The same thinking that got you to where you are is not the same thinking that’s going to get you to the next level. The same behaviors that got you to where you are, are not the same behaviors that are going to get you to the next level. It’s going to take a different way of thinking and a different set of behaviors. And the great news, you can control all of that. When you start hanging around other people … I love hanging around people that are possibility thinkers, they have a big vision.

Because anything that you ever achieve, and you ever win, you succeed in, you’re going to have to achieve and win in your head first. When you hang around those people, you think differently. Hang around those people that say, “Look, man, I’m always barely getting by. It’s paycheck to paycheck.” They want to talk about politics, they want to argue online every single day, they’re bitter and they’re angry. Then what happens? You become who you hang around. I have drilled this into my kids’ head, their heads, their entire life, “You become who you hang around.” If you hang around people that party, you’re probably going to party. If you hang around people that are health conscious, you’re probably going to pay more attention to your health, you’re going to exercise, you’re going to eat differently. Who are your associations? What are they doing to you? Or what are they doing for you? I would make a list of people that you’re going to be intentional about associating with. Right now, we’re all associating with one another. We’re associating with one another right now, and we didn’t have that back in the day.

I’m sounding like my parents and my grandparents, right? Like, “Back in the day, we used to walk to school 10 miles backwards through snow, beat a bear to death with our trapper keeper notebook.” All those fun things. But I was telling you, now you have the ability to have associations that are online, to hire coaches, have virtual coaches that can walk you through things and teach you exactly what you need to know to get you where you want to be faster. All right. I got to move on. Number four … By the way, anybody having any aha moments? Has there been any member so far that you’re like, “Oh my gosh, I needed to hear that.” Love to see that in the comments so I can go back and read it afterwards. Your feedback helps me develop future trainings. And by the way, if you’ve got some people that you’re like, “Man, I know someone that needs to hear this information.” Make sure to let them know. If you’re enjoying the training, let me know by smashing that Love button up top because that helps as well. Number four, what you focus on.

    Focus

Another key to a breakthrough is paying attention to what we focus on. What we focus on, we attract. This is not some woo-woo whatever, there’s science behind this. What you seek is seeking you. Well, I’ve been at a Tony Robbins event and he’s like, “Look, look right now for anything and everything you could find that is red.” And you’re looking around and you’re counting how many things you can find that are red. And then he says, “Close your eyes.” And he’s like, “How many blue things did you see?” And you’re sitting there going, “You didn’t tell us to look for blue, you told us to look for red.” And he goes, “Now open your eyes, how many blue things can you find?” Well, guess what? You see a lot more blue because you’re looking for it. So what you seek is seeking you. We magnetize the condition that we seek. What we focus on, we attract. What we focus on, grows. Because where your focus goes, your energy flows. Are we focusing on what we can’t control, not what we can control?

Challenges and Obstacles are Our Friends

So many times I’m coaching people and they’re sharing with me, “Oh my gosh, this is happening, that’s happening.” So what we do is we write down, “Okay, where are you right now?” And we do a prospective analysis. Like a third party report, “Here’s where you are.” And I go, “Okay, now let’s make a can-do list of what you can do in the situation that you’re in right now. And then let’s prioritize, and let’s start with the first two or three things.” So we’re focusing on what they can do, not what they can’t do. We’re focusing on where we’re going, not where we’ve been. Don’t look back unless you want to go that way, I mentioned that in the beginning. So what are you focusing on? Because what gets your attention gets you. Number five, another key to a breakthrough … no one ever taught us this in school. They didn’t teach us that challenges and obstacles are our friends. I used to look at problems and challenges and obstacles, I’m like, “Oh my gosh, it’s terrible. Another one?” But then I learned that it’s not the easy times that make us grow.

We don’t grow in easy times. And every time I’ve went to a different level in my life, there’s a couple of reasons. Number one, I finally believed that I could. But the next thing was, I went through some crazy challenging times. I went through problems, and challenges, and some disasters. When I was bankrupt 22 years ago on government assistance, couldn’t support my family, couldn’t make it through college, at the doctor for depression, putting me on depression medicine. If you would’ve told me back then, “Darin, this is one of the best things that ever happened to you.” I’ll say, “Hey, you’ve lost your mind. That’s the craziest thing I’ve ever heard. How can this be a good thing?” But the reason that it was a good thing, one, I changed the way that I was thinking, I changed the words that I was saying, I changed what I was focusing on, I changed my associations, and then I changed my attitude to where like, “You know what?” And I started changing the questions that I asked myself. Not, “Hey, why do bad things always happen to me?”

Bad questions get bad answers. Or, “Why do I keep having this happen? Why do people always do this to me?” Instead I said, “How can I grow through this and not just go through this? How can this make me better, not bitter. What can I learn through these challenging times?” And everything started to turn around. And now that those tests are my testimony. There is no message without the mess. So me going through those things, if you would’ve told me back then, “Darin, your story will impact people all over the world. You’ll be on the advisory council with John Maxwell, you’ll be interviewed on Grant Cardone TV, you’ll be featured in books and successful magazines multiple times.” I would have … “You’ll be speaking on stages in front of tens of thousands of people all over the world, you’ll have social media with hundreds of thousands of followers.” I would have said, “You know what? I wish that was true.” But I couldn’t see that far. Understand sometimes when you have that vision and you’re going through these challenging times, you can only see a certain amount ahead.

It’s like at night when your lights are shining just a little bit ahead, you can see that far. But when you get that far, you can see a little bit further. Challenges and obstacles are your best friend. Without obstacles, there is no elevation. Obstacles and challenges lead to elevation. How many of us need to hear that? I need to hear that myself. The last 24 months, I’ve been through some big challenges. But guess what? I knew when I was going through those challenges, I said, “This will end up being the best thing that’s ever happened to me, but I got to go through what God is trying to get me through.” Or, “I got to go through where God is trying to get me to.” And now looking back, I’ve grown more in the last 24 months that I had the previous decade combined, but it was those challenging times. When you’re going through it, it’s hard to look at it as a positive thing. But I’m telling you, it will end up being.

Because those challenging times, those days of disgust, will end up … if you have the right perspective, which is the things that we’re talking about. This really … I mean, I don’t know about you, but these are things that I wish someone would have taught me many years ago. It wouldn’t have taken me as long to get to where I am if someone would have taught me these things, this is like a mini course right here. Looking at challenges, without obstacles, there is no elevation. It’s not the easy times that make us grow. Even my goal right now, going from being a distributor, having franchises into the speaking coaching, training world, doing masterminds and courses and all of those things, I’m like, “You know what? I’m going to make some mistakes. I’m going to fail, but I’m going to fail fast and I’m going to fail forward. My perspective now is I don’t fail, I either win or I learn.

    You Have to Choose Accountability

The difference … If you have someone in your company, whether it’s network marketing, direct sales, real estate, mortgage, or whatever, if they’re making more money than you, they’ve made more mistakes than you but they’re learning from those mistakes. You plan, do, review. You fail forward. A rocket is off track on the way to the moon 97% of the time, but it continues to readjust. Number six, not having accountability. If you want to have a breakthrough, you have to choose accountability. The definition of apathy is a natural human instinct, common to us all, to seek a comfort zone where nothing ever changes. Let me repeat that again. Apathy, a natural human instinct common to us all to seek a comfort zone where nothing ever changes. A comfort zone is a beautiful thing, but nothing grows in a comfort zone. If you have everything you ever wanted in life over here, your comfort zone is over. Because a comfort zone was designed to keep us safe. It’s just keep us safe and keep us in that rut. Accountability is a choice. I know how to work out.

May not look like it, I love to work out. But I will never push myself like having a trainer, that’s why I have a trainer. Whether it’s spiritual, physical, whatever area it may be, choose accountability. Hire a coach, look for a workout partner. Because as Les Brown says, “It’s hard to see the picture when you’re in the frame. It’s hard to read the label when you’re in the box.” So if I’m in the gym and I’m doing certain exercises, they’re going to push me harder than I would push myself. They’re going to see me … Like last night we finished our workout and one of them came over and said, “Hey Darin, the entire time you were doing those sets, you had your arms bent instead of straight.” And I’m like, “Whoa, I didn’t even know that.” So you have to choose accountability in every aspect of your life. We will never, ever get to where we should be or could be without accountability.

    Don’t Wait!

And last but not least, number seven, waiting until we feel like we’re ready. Another key to a breakthrough is you don’t wait. I was listening to an interview recently and here’s what he said, “Successful people make decisions on commitments. Amateurs make decisions on how they feel.” If we wait until we feel like it … Can I get an “amen” on this one? We’re never going to feel like it. That’s why Emerson said, “Do the thing and then you’ll have the power.” He didn’t say, “Hey, wait for the power. Just wait, just keep waiting and then go do the thing.” It’s never going to happen. No matter what project we’re working on, it’s always, “I need a little more training.” Is it just me or is it some of you too? Am I the only one? I don’t think so. No. It’s do the thing, have the power. “I just feel like I need a little more training. I need a little more prep time. Let me get a little more this, a little more that.” No, you need to go out there and you need to fail forward. You need to execute, you need to get going.

Here’s what Patton said. This is one of my favorite quotes, “A good plan violently executed now is better than a perfect plan next week.” Let me know in the comments, how many of you are guilty like I am of feeling like procrastinating and feeling like we need a little bit more time to prepare and get ready? Or, “Hey, things are just not good enough.” They’re never going to be good enough but we procrastinate. Hey, that’s what we can do, we can start a whole procrastinators group. How many of y’all want to do that? Procrastinators Unite Tomorrow. Okay. Sorry. Bad jokes, bad humor. But that’s the truth. We all procrastinate and we all wait. You will never feel ready, but motion creates emotion. Like I didn’t want to do this live today, this training. I’m like, “Oh my gosh, it’s Saturday and I’m tired, and I’ve got a lot of things to do and a lot of things on my mind.” I said, “I just need a little more coffee.” All kinds of excuses.

    Recap

But I knew once I got on camera, once I started engaging with you amazing people, once I started seeing your comments like, “Darin, oh my gosh. I needed to hear that. Oh Darin, that was an aha moment.” And you’re tagging other people, and you’re hitting the Love button, and you’re sharing this in your groups and things like that, that energizes me. So now I feel like I’ve had 20 cups of coffee. That motion creates emotion. Psychologists have proven it is easier to act your way into a feeling than feel your way into acting. Let’s recap real quick. And let me know if one of these was one like, “That’s the one I needed to hear.” Or if it was multiple. Number one … Seven keys to a breakthrough just as a recap. Number one, your thinking and your speaking. Think about what you’re thinking about and pay attention to what you speak. Your thoughts and what you say are seeds and they don’t come back void. Your thoughts and your speaking are self-fulfilling prophecy. What you focus on, you’re going to get. Number two, investing in yourself.

If you want to get to where … If you want to grow slow, if you want to grow slow, do it yourself. Figure it out yourself. If you want to grow fast, invest in yourself. What are you reading? What are you listening to? What courses are you taking? Are you participating in masterminds? Are you investing in you the best investment you could possibly make? Are you hiring a coach that can help you get to where you want to be sooner than later? Number three, your associations. Be intentional about who you are associating with. Some of you may have to disassociate with some people for a while or limit your time with certain associations. Some of you may have to tell some of your negative friends and family, “If you don’t have anything positive to say, then be quiet. Get rid of your stinking thinking, take a checkup from your neck up. If you don’t have something positive to say, I don’t want to hear it because what you’re going to say about what I’m going to do is not going to affect me.

So if it’s not positive and it’s not encouraging, keep your thoughts to yourself.” I’m telling you because that one negative word, that one negative comment, I’ve seen studies where it’s said it’s 14-17 times more powerful than a positive. If you don’t believe me, how many times have we been going through an awesome day and that one person say something really stupid, and they get under our skin and we have a hard time getting it out of our head? We go to bed thinking about it and dream about it, and we wake up the next day thinking about it. I’m telling you, when you have a vision, remember not everybody’s going to see your vision. God gave it to you, He did not give it to them. So who gives a rip? Last time I checked, no one is going to pay your bills, put your kids through college with their opinion. And the same people that are negative and have bad things to say about you and what you’re doing, and talk about you behind your back, will later on be going, “You know what? Let me tell you how I know Shilah.

Oh, I know Shilah, I’ve known Shilah for years.” They’re going to be bragging about how they know you, so don’t worry about what they say. Vision is seeing it before the masses see it. If someone would have told us, “Hey, we’ll be on a phone. You’ll hold this device in your hand, we’ll be looking at each other through the airwaves all over the world, communicating in different languages, different countries.” If they would have told us that years ago, we’d have been like, “That is the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard. How in the world am I going to see you through the airwaves around the world?” So just understand every person that had a big vision and a big dream, they went through those phases. So your associations. Number four, what you focus on. It’s displacement. You can’t say, “Don’t think of a negative thought.” You think of that negative thought. “Don’t think of a pink elephant.” You think of a pink elephant. It’s you have to displace the negative with the positive.

    Get Back Up Again

If I had dirty water in my water bottle and I go to the faucet and I turn it on and that pure, clean, fresh water is coming into this, it’s going to displace the dirty water with the clean water. That’s the way your mind works. Garbage in, garbage out. That’s why some days I have positive things playing in the background, because your subconscious is always recording, or a lot. Because I’m fighting the negative, I’m fighting the self-doubt, I’m fighting the negative self-talk. So I’m like, “If I’m flooding my mind, immersing that total immersion with positivity, I’m not giving the negativity a place to live.” What you focus on, you attract. What you focus on, grows. What gets your attention, gets you. Number five, looking at challenges the right way. A key to a breakthrough is, “Hey look, challenges are my best friend. Failures are my best friend. Obstacles lead to elevation, bring it on. Every time you knock me down, I get up a little bit stronger. But every time you knock me down, I’m getting up again.”

It’s hard to beat someone … I can’t remember if it was Babe Ruth or who it was, had a quote about, “You know what? It’s hard to beat someone that never quits.” So if you keep getting back up, it’s impossible for you to fail. If you look at Colonel Sanders, Kentucky Fried Chicken, I think it was 1,000 people that told him no. He was 67 years old before he hit it big with his franchise and his chicken recipe. If you look at Edison, he said, “I didn’t fail thousands of times, I just found thousands of things that wouldn’t work.” All of the people that are the biggest successes that we see, they’re the biggest failures that you will ever meet. One of my mentors, which was a billionaire, said, “I’m one of the biggest failures you’ll ever meet.” And I’m like, “How is that possible?” He’s like, “I had over 100 companies, 60 of them failed. But the 40 did billions, the 40 are the reason that I paid for 1,000 kids a year to go to college. The reason that I’ve given hundreds of millions of dollars to charity.”
